The Microsoft XBOX 360

I got one.

Although I started to wait in line at 11 PM to get the core since they only had FOUR Premium packages the following night at Wal*Mart, it was fun. A bunch of us in line were all talkative and we took walks around. There was no need to watch for line cutters except until the very end because we all knew each other by the day time. So, at around midnight, there are all these cleaning people and landscapers that come and clean up the parking lot. There was this one guy that operated the mall street sweeper. He’d constantatly just go 40 miles per hour up and down the aisles, not even picking up a thing. After he got tired of that, he’d get out and start using his trusty leaf-blower to blow stuff back onto the street after the sweeper blew it all on the sidewalk. I’m surprised how that place even gets clean.

At around this same time, there was this strange lady that came around with coffee and a chair to try and get us to hold her place. It worked for the first three hours or so, but she said she’d be gone for only an hour so everybody in the line had a mutiny and we threw her chair to the end of the line so we could give two other people a real chance at getting one. That lady was gone for FIVE hours and when she came back at 6 AM, she expected her spot back. NO WAY. All of us were sitting in the cold and she was at home in a scarf and UGG boots.

As the opening of the store drew nearer, 7 AM, more people came around and we all took turns crushing the spirits of little kids trying to get an XBOX 360 at 6 AM (one hour before the store opening). At 6 AM, the Assistant Manager SAID that there were 10 Premium and 4 Core systems, but he doesn’t know how to speak proper English and those numbers were actually reversed. I was number 10 in line, and I at first thought I was going to get a Premium, but I only got the Core, which is still worth a bunch on eBay. He proceeded to give out vouchers and I got one. At the end of the line, though, drama was brewing. That crazy lady totally thought she was going to get one, even though the two college students, who were number 13 and 14 were totally sitting out in the cold all night to get one. Everybody in the line sided with the college students because they had actually done work, not brought black coffee in a milk jug, or black milk. We also noticed that the milk doesn’t expire until December 3.

When the store opened, the manager said it was in the Layaway section. I thought, okay, back of the store. Then as a bunch of us started getting in the store, the employees said it was in Electronics. I went there, and there was nothing. So I get out of the Electronics island and the same employee said they were in Layaway. He was so dumb, I hope he gets fired. So I get to the Layaway line and there are about a dozen people in front of me. Half of them didn’t have a Golden Ticket, and the other half did. When they *tried* to purchase one at the counter, they were only turned away because they didn’t have a ticket. They couldn’t even purchase games or accessories without the ticket today. So I finally get mine, and went to slide it off the counter. It almost dropped since the box weighs somewhere between 15 to 20 pounds.

At this time, it was approximately 7:15 AM, and I knew Best Buy doesn’t open until 9 AM, so I decided to take a trip to the line there and start flashing my XBOX 360 Core around. People were bewildered at how I already gotten one. I then go to school and come home to place my new XBOX 360 on eBay. It’s all packaged up and ready to go. I’d gladly sell it to the first person that offers me $1,000 right now. After all, I did wait in line all night, getting no sleep.

My Night

Wow.

The first thing I did tonight was go to Sylvester’s in Los Osos. I had the 1/2 lb. Desperado Burger with Sylvester’s sauce. That burger was awesome. It tastes way better than Firestone’s in San Luis Obispo.

The next thing was that my friends and I went to the Avila Pits to try and create an enormous bonfire with a gallon of gasoline, a dozen wooden pallets, and a handful of logs and tree stumps. When we got to the pits, there was practically nobody there and the steel rings that usually contain the fires were gone. There was a woman down there and she said that the ranger had come to tell them that they had to let their fire go down and leave because no fires were allowed when the rings weren’t out. So after discussing with the other driver for a few minutes, we decided to go out to Pismo Beach, more specifically, Oceano State Park. Oceano State Park is the only state park on the west coast that allows so much traffic. It was like the entire beach was a highway.

Before we got there, we had to dump all the pallets because they weren’t allowed in Oceano. We arrived, and unloaded all the logs. Gasoline was poured into one of the openings in the log and placed in a conviently dug out of the sand by somebody else. It was lit on fire, and another log was placed on it to get the fire going good. After a while, it got really boring, so Chris decided to jump through it after a few logs were piled on top of it. He jumped and hurt his back falling on it. Then gasoline was poured on it and there was a gigantic fireball. This was done twice and it looked spectacular.

We let the logs burn for a while while we went out to the dunes to do some off-roading. That was fun, way better than going to any amusement park. The truck I was in got some air off this jump, and it we went down some steep embankments. That was so fun. After about a half-hour of that, we went back to the fire and just sat around. I took some pictures of the fire and traffic. Then we just headed back to San Luis Obispo. I am so tired.

Geocaching

I’ve recently started Geocaching. It’s so fun. I actually found my first one on Thursday, with the help of one of my lab-mates for CE222. I suggest everybody try it at least once. I went out, today, and found one that was actually very close to my house. It was exciting.

Veranda Cafe @ Cal Poly

I had the best lunch there today. I ordered a Mediterranean Sandwich that cost $5.95. It was a little pricy, but it came with a side-salad, which wasn’t that good. I had placed my order, and took a number to put on the edge of the table when I went to the cash register. The cashier was just sitting there looking the other direction when I told her I didn’t know what I was doing at the register, like what I was paying, etc, because usually the cashiers automatically total everything at the other restuarants on the campus. Then my friend comes up and told the cashier that I had ordered a sandwich. That’s when the cashier realized that I hadn’t been there. There was another cashier behind me that was apparently listening to everything. So I paid and I was sitting at the table when the eavesdropping cashier comes around and brought two pieces of cornbread. She gave them to us because she noticed that we were new and didn’t know what the heck we were doing.
Then the sandwich came. That thing tasted so good. It had nice toasty bread with ham , pesto sauce, onions, bacon, and a myriad of other tasty items. It was just the right size too; not too filling. It was great. If I ever have any extra money for lunch, I’m definately going there again.

Flip-Flops, iPods, and Cells

It seems like that everybody on campus either has flip-flops on, is listening to an iPod with its trendy white headphones, or are talking to somebody else on a cell phone. What ever happened to walking around without any of that stuff?

People should only be able to wear flip-flops if their feet are NOT butt ugly. I’ve seen some real gross feet on some of the guys and gals here. Wear regular shoes and cover that crap up!

So I guess listening to an iPod is trendy. Or maybe they just want to block out everybody around them… How much can you really listen to on the walk to class? An average song is about four-minutes. The walk to class, for me, takes less than ten minutes. I suppose you can listen to it in the library or something, but why go into the library, where it’s quiet, to listen to music? You can do that anywhere else.

And last, about you people talking on cell phones. Are you really talking to somebody else for TEN minutes? Jeez. Get off the phone and talk with the friends you see passing you on the campus.

So, cover up your feet, turn down your iPods, and hang up your cell phones.

Watch Battery Replacement

How hard is it to replace a watch battery? Well, apparently for the Finlay Enterprises (the company Gottchalk’s outsources their jewerly department to) is impossible. I took my watch to get a *battery* replaced, because I don’t have the tools here, and the stupid lady BROKE the watch. It practically exploded inside the case. The battery replacement itself went okay, but when she tried to put the back case back on, she didn’t have a plastic piece aligned (which shouldn’t have come off in the first place because it wasn’t anywhere near the battery) when she pressed the back down with this pressing tool and the whole face of the watch buckled. That caused all the hands to fly off. Now all the parts are just inside the watch, between the face and the crystal. Gee, thanks for breaking my good watch. The good thing is, I only paid $20 for the watch, but I’m getting $50 back in store credit to get a better watch. I hope they fire Nancy, the person who was working on it, or at least demote her or something.

Phone Handset Update

I haven’t gotten very far with the handset idea I had posted earlier. As a matter of fact, I haven’t even started because school started up again.
